Meeting the Companies House Identity Verification Standard?
What's changed?
Filing to Companies House has undergone major changes, with new rules having taken effect on 18 November 2025.
Identity verification has become mandatory as part of the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023.
All new and existing company directors, LLP members and PSCs need to be verified to the Companies House Standard.
What can accountants do?
To verify your clients to the Companies House Identity Verification standard, you must:
- Register as an ACSP (Authorised Corporate Service Provider) with Companies House; and
- Use biometric identity verification (IDV) technology capable of validating the cryptographic features of the identification document.

If you choose not to use (IDV) technology and continue to conduct the manual identify checks you may be doing today, you need to enrol your team on a Home Office Security style training course to be able to spot potential identity fraud and document tampering.

Is there a registration process required to perform the Biometric ID checks in TaxCalc?
There is no registration required to be able to perform Biometric Identity Checks in Taxcalc.
However, if you are using the checks to verify an individual’s identity to the Companies House standard, you will need to be registered as an ACSP (Authorized corporate service provider) to log into Companies House and verify an individual’s identity.
Can the Biometric Identity Checks be used to verify an individual to the Companies House Standard?
Yes, Companies House type checks can be run, the checks can be used to assist in verifying an individual to the Companies House standard. TaxCalc Biometric Identity Checks use IDVT (identification document validation technology) that can validate the cryptographic features of the Identity document as is required by the Companies House Standard.
Can the Biometric Identity Checks be used for AML compliance?
Yes, there are onboarding Biometric Identity Checks which can be used to retrieve identity documents, confirm presence and likeness to the Identity document, with an additional option to retrieve an additional document to confirm address.
Do Biometric Identity Check licences last forever?
Biometric Identity Checks are purchased annually and will renew each year. Any unused checks at the end of a licence period, will not be carried over to the next licence period.
Can I buy more Biometric Identity Check credits if I have used up all the ones in my current licence?
Yes, you can upgrade to a new annual licence to be able to access more Biometric Identity Checks.
