Withdrawal of Support for Mac 10.6 (Snow Leopard)

Article ID: 2520
Last updated: 28 Mar, 2017

Since the TaxCalc update in November 2015, we have been unable to support our software and services on computers that run the Mac 10.6 (Snow Leopard) operating systems.

Why are you withdrawing support?

Mac 10.6 was released in August 2009 and was formally retired by Apple on 26 February 2014. Since then, Apple have not issued any security updates that would ensure it remains safe and secure.

We made the decision to support Mac OS 10.6 for as long as we could. However, planned changes to Internet security standards, as well as protocols for the Government web services with which our software communicates, required us to make some substantive changes to the software’s code.

These changes have had many knock-on effects, ultimately resulting in it no longer being able to run on this version of Mac OS.

What can I do about it?

Fortunately, it is unlikely that you would need to buy a new computer since many older Apple computers are capable of running the latest Mac operating system, being Mac OS 10.11 (El Capitan).

Apple provides the upgrade entirely for free. To see if your Mac can run El Capitan, please visit

What will happen if I call your support team?

We will, of course, help you if you need to migrate your TaxCalc software to a newer computer. Unfortunately, though, we will be unable to assist if you wish to run TaxCalc on Mac OS 10.6.

You can find out more about moving your software and data to a new computer (whether to a new PC or Mac) in our Knowledge Base article How do I move to a new computer, including to a different operating system?
