EU Data Protection Laws

Companies operating within the EU are obliged to look after customer data according to EU Data Protection laws. Under these laws, any data held by a provider belongs to the customer, not the provider.

Furthermore, it is not recommended that data leaves the EU for processing or storage. Ownership of data can vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. For example, in some countries outside of the EU, the data may belong to the provider and not the customer.

This is an important consideration when building infrastructure for a service such as TaxCalc CloudConnect®. Providers of infrastructure outside of the EU may have the right to examine data for their own means. In others, such as the USA, law enforcement agencies have the right to inspection and could seize data without notice from a server located in that country.

As such, we ensure that providers of our infrastructure are both registered and owned within the EU. Or, more specially, your live data is located within the UK and your backup data stored offshore in France.
