TaxAssist Endorse Engager for Practice Management

Norwich, 9 July 2026 - TaxAssist Accountants, the UK's leading accountancy franchise, has chosen to endorse Engager's practice management software to its network of more than 230 firms. The move deepens a partnership with TaxCalc that began in 2018, under which TaxAssist has mandated TaxCalc's core compliance suite to its franchisees.

TaxAssist selected Engager for its intuitive, end-to-end automation of client onboarding, workflow and communications, and for its close integration with the tax and accounts data already held in TaxCalc. Because TaxAssist firms are already powered by TaxCalc, they can adopt Engager with minimal disruption and dedicated support, and it will now be promoted alongside the network's existing technology stack.

Nic Redfern, CFO at TaxAssist Accountants, said: “Our focus is always on giving firms the tools that help them run efficient, well‑structured practices. Engager adds real value in that respect, particularly because of how closely it integrates with TaxCalc.”

He added: “We’re looking for long‑term partners who share our goals around efficiency, compliance and client experience. This endorsement reflects our confidence that Engager can support our franchisees to grow.”

Connected practice management

Engager brings together the core tools firms use to run a practice - proposals and onboarding, task management, time tracking and billing, and client approvals via a portal with built-in e-signatures - alongside automated client emails at key dates. Its integration with TaxCalc removes the need to duplicate or rekey information across systems: when a client is added or their details change, firms update the information once. For TaxAssist firms, that means less manual work, fewer errors and a smoother experience managing clients, deadlines and communications.

Jo Nockels, Head of Practice Development, at TaxAssist, said: “After compliance, practice management is the most important tool and is essential to the success of an ambitious firm. It offers a huge amount of value for the practice: for consistency, quality, workflow management, and even supporting the wellbeing of the staff members.”

Jo added: “A big benefit of practice management is the automation of client communication. Used well, this can deliver a much more proactive service and enables the practice to prioritise work that might previously have taken too much time, ultimately leading to a much better client experience.”

Built around how firms work

Pauline Smith, Chief Product Officer at TaxCalc, said: “Engager has been developed to work seamlessly with TaxCalc, so firms can manage their practice in a joined-up manner rather than relying on disconnected systems. That removes duplication and gives them a single, consistent view of their work, so they can spend less time checking and rekeying information, while making it easier to manage workloads, reduce errors and deliver a smoother experience to clients.”

She added: “Our focus is on building tools that reflect how accountancy practices really operate day to day, and this closer integration means firms can move more easily between compliance work and practice management without losing time or context.”

A natural fit

Katie Hawking, Director of Group Operations at TaxAssist, said: “Because our firms are already using TaxCalc, Engager stood out as a natural fit because of the sync between the two products. That means the burden of data entry and maintenance is significantly reduced, which removes a major barrier to adopting practice management.”

Katie explained TaxAssist was very encouraged by the Engager product roadmap and plans for even greater integration with TaxCalc.

She said: “As the two systems (tax/accounts and practice management) come closer together, it should be possible to automate the personalisation of reminders and client communications. The ability to make bulk communications feel relevant and specific to our clients is a big appeal.”

Making the switch simple

TaxAssist franchisees will be supported through the transition with structured onboarding, regular webinars and hands-on help from a dedicated TaxCalc team.

Millie Thompson, Key Account Director at TaxCalc, who is leading on the partnership, said: “Engager was created and designed by accountants, for accountants. Now, the integration with TaxCalc means firms can manage everything in a joined-up way, with tax and compliance data flowing through, rather than being copied or rekeyed between systems. That means when a client is added or their details change, firms only need to update the information once, rather than maintaining the same data across both systems.”

She added: “We know switching systems can feel like a big step, so a huge part of our focus is on making that transition as straightforward as possible. We have a dedicated team to support TaxAssist and we’ll be helping to provide structured training, regular webinars and hands‑on support for TaxAssist firms/franchisees.”
