As a non-resident, how do I claim personal allowances where available?

You may be able to claim personal allowances as a non-resident. If you are allowed to do this, you can input the details using SimpleStep or HMRC Forms as instructed below.

SimpleStep mode

  1. Browse to Residence and Remittance  
  2. Tick the box for Personal allowances under a Double Taxation Agreement or other basis as a non resident?
  3. Go to Personal Allowances
  4. Tick the appropriate box for claiming personal allowance under a Double Taxation Agreement or for claiming On some other basis.
  5. Enter the applicable country code (this can be manually typed in or by clicking on the wizard icon).

HMRC Forms mode

  1. Browse to Residence and remittance from the left-hand menu.
  2. Go to page 2.
  3. Tick either box 15 or box 16 to claim the personal allowances depending on your situation.
  4. Add the country code in box 17 (this can be manually typed in or by clicking on the wizard icon).
