Last updated: 30 Nov, 2023

TaxCalc is either ‘fully supported’, ‘partially supported’ or ‘unsupported’ running on the configurations of operating system as listed here.

Fully supported

TaxCalc is optimised to work on the specified versions of these operating systems and all releases are tested on them. Please note those marked with a * have additional information below.

Microsoft Windows

  • Windows 11
  • Windows 10 (All versions)
  • Windows 8.1
  • Windows Server 2012
  • Windows Server 2016
  • Windows Server 2019

Note that we do not test our software on Windows Server

Please note the computer which holds the server type installation/database is required to be 64-bit.

Apple Mac (64-bit only)

  • 14.00 Sonoma
  • 13.00 Ventura (v13.1.006 onwards)
  • 12.00 Monterey
  • 11.00 Big Sur

Please note M1, M2 and M3 chips issued for new Mac machines are supported for use with the TaxCalc application.

Linux

  • 64 bit kernel 3.10 (or higher), Debian (e.g. Ubuntu) or Redhat based distributions
  • Graphical user interface (GUI)
  • Office productivity software (for Word and Excel exports)

We fully support customers with TaxCalc queries encountered when running on these configurations and we endeavour to correct any issues that emerge.

Appropriate hardware is required to run any operating system.

Partially supported

Please note that the operating systems below are no longer supported by Microsoft or Apple. We therefore do not test the application on these operating systems and cannot guarantee that the application is able to run sufficiently and in its full capacity. TaxCalc would strongly recommend upgrading your operating system if you are using one of the following:

  • Windows 7 - Microsoft support ends 14th Jan 2020
  • Windows 8 - Microsoft support ended Jan 2016 (Windows 8.1 is still fully supported)
  • Windows Server 2008 - Microsoft support ends 14th Jan 2020
  • Mac OSX 10.15 Catalina - Apple support ended Oct 2022

Unsupported

For more information on our unsupported operating systems, please see our Knowledge Base article for Retired Operating Systems

These operating systems may no longer be supported by their suppliers making them vulnerable to security threats and we strongly recommend that all customers move to a fully supported platform immediately.

Program Compatibility

  • The Encrypted PDF module is not compatible with Mac or Linux operating systems.
  • Mac and Linux machines can act as clients connecting to the server and CloudConnect versions of TaxCalc, but cannot currently act as the "server machine" for TaxCalc.

Hosted Environment Compatibility

TaxCalc may work perfectly well in the following environments but we cannot guarantee it:

  • Remote Desktop / Terminal Services
  • Citrix

While releases may be tested on these configurations and we will make reasonable efforts to support customers with queries encountered on them, we may not be able to correct any issues that emerge. These environments are not within TaxCalc’s core operating parameters and planned or emergency updates to TaxCalc may render it unable to run within a given environment, at little or no notice. However, TaxCalc will make efforts to provide an update to remedy such environment-related issues as soon as reasonably possible.

Additional Requirements

  • A PDF viewer such as Adobe Reader 9.0 or higher (Adobe Reader 11.0.06 or above is required for Windows 8/8.1 and Windows 10).
  • Microsoft Office 2010 or higher (*excluding Office365) for export and Mail Merge features.
    • Microsoft retired support for Office 2007 on 10 October 2017. Following this, our support of Office 2007 is on reasonable endeavours only.
    • *Office365 is partially supported. Please note, this has to be the fully installed application and not the click to run edition as certain files will be required that aren't included in this edition.
  • An internet connection to allow the product to be licensed to you, receive updates and file online.
  • A minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 768.
  • 4k monitors may require an additional step, please refer to: Scaling TaxCalc on High resolution (HiDPI) Displays
